5 Tips for Planning a Transformational Group Mastermind Retreat for Your Clients

Planning a transformational group mastermind retreat isn't easy, but these tips will help!

You’ve definitely heard of “The Great Resignation” at this point. Droves and droves of people are leaving their full-time, brick-and-mortar jobs behind to chase a life of freedom and limitless opportunities. As the pandemic wanes, individuals are still re-evaluating what makes them happy, what their goals are, and how they want to live their lives. Many of them are seeking coaching to help them do that. For that reason, career coaches, financial coaches, and life coaches—now is the time to capitalize on mastermind retreats for high-paying clients looking to reinvent themselves, invest in their futures, and create the life they’ve dreamed of. But planning a group mastermind retreat can feel daunting when there are so many pieces that go into creating transformational content for your attendees.

We’ve helped creators, coaches, and entrepreneurs plan retreats in Morocco, Bali, New Orleans, San Diego, and beyond. Today, we’re sharing our tips for planning a group mastermind retreat that sparks transformation for your attendees and builds an unbreakable community for your brand.

Determine Your Goals

Goals for a group mastermind retreat are twofold:

What do YOU want to achieve and what do you want your ATTENDEES to achieve?

You have to ask these questions:

  • What is the purpose of hosting this mastermind?
  • In order for this purpose and these goals to be met, how many people can you effectively support during that time together?
  • Depending on the answer above, do you need support from another coach?
  • How many days will you need for them to work through the manifestation you’re doing together and feel that transformation they’re seeking?
  • What sort of environmental factors do you need to consider (i.e., do people need separate workspaces, will you need space for yoga, do you want everyone to work together and immerse themselves in nature?)
  • What questions will you ask to qualify attendees and make sure you cultivate a group that vibes off of one another?

Goal setting is the critical step that most creators skip. It’s not just about the bottom line and how much you want to make off of it, although that is important. You need to go much deeper; these questions are a good place to start!

Choose a Destination That Provides an Escape

We tend to get stifled creatively when we’re stuck in the same box daily. So, get off the grid! Now, we’re not saying rough it. We’re saying get away from the distractions of daily life. Go to a destination with a culture and landscape that will spark something in people.

Don’t Have it Be All Work, No Play

Oftentimes our greatest inspiration comes when we allow our mind to rest. We’ve seen people come up with a million-dollar idea when they least expect it on these retreats. Plan activities that allow people to disconnect from the daily grind and reconnect with themselves and their inner knowing.

This could look like yoga on the beach, an afternoon visit to an artisan for a pottery workshop, a cooking class to create local cuisine, an in-house spa day—there is no limit to what you can explore. And it’s likely during that time that some of the best, most creative ideas will come to life!

Offer Tangible Services Throughout the Retreat

You want to provide value-add services throughout your group mastermind’s time together. Think business branding photo sessions, spiritual energy readings, branding consultations for beginning businesses, a one-on-one meeting with a certified financial consultant or lawyer, etc. Things that will help them get up and running after they’ve created a vision during your time together.

Don’t End Your Relationship When They Walk Away from the Retreat

In order for the work you do on-site together to be truly transformational, providing follow-up support is key to success. Do monthly group calls to cover progress for at least a few months post-retreat, if not an entire year. Then, you can also upsell multiple retreats throughout the year, maybe even quarterly, depending on your goals!
